A Short Guide To Buy A New Smartphone!

So, its December now-so everyone is waiting for holidays to start. And like each year, this holiday season too will bring in offers on almost everything and in almost every shop. So this is the season where you can upgrade your devices with getting additional benefits. So those of you who plan to buy a new phone here is a guide to buy a new phone.
With hundreds of phones available on the marketplace, it is pretty hard to choose which phone to buy. These phones vary a lot in their respective areas. After reading this guide, iif youhave an queries or doubts still remaining, emails at rajmehta53@gmail.com or comments are most welcome. So lets go step by step and analyze each field and choose the right mobile phone-

Step 1: Choosing the right operating system

The OS plays a major role in the user experience. It depends on person to person which OS they like of dislike. In today’s market, only 3 major OS have more sales- Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Choosing the right OS is very important in buying a phone. Android can be good for certain people who want their phone customizable. Adding widgets on the screen can provide ease of access. Another major advantage is that Android is open-source and is provided by many manufacturers. So, there is a wide range to choose from. And if you are bored of the old design, the phone can be rooted and a custom ROM can be installed. (For those who don’t know much about rooting, I will prepare a different article on it later.) And with the launch of Android 5.0 Lollipop with Google’s material design, I would strongly recommend Android. iOS can be a other option but it is mainly for simplicity. It is not open source, so it cannot be edited and it is limited to only the Apple iPhone. I, being a Windows Phone user like it for being heavily customizable. It also provides smoothness which no OS offers. And Windows Phone can also be useful for enterprises.

Step 2: Deciding your budget

Right now, the mobile phone companies offer mobile phones of any budget you may want. Smartphones prices start from ₹3000($48) till ₹80000($1290). So the next step would be deciding at what price should you buy the phone. If you are a hardcore smartphone user who unlocks the phone every 2 minutes, it is better to buy a mid-range or a high-end phone. Here are some of the phones I would prefer in their respective price ranges-

Android Phones in ₹ 5000- ₹10000 would include the Asus ZenFone 5, the Moto E or the Xiaomi Redmi 1S or the Redmi Note. Whereas, Windows Phone in this range would include the Nokia Lumia 630, Lumia 530, or the Lumia 535.

In the price range of ₹10000 to ₹15000, the best Android phones would include the Moto G(2nd Gen), HTC Desire 816G and the Asus ZenFone 6. Whereas, Windows Phone in thus price range would be the Nokia Lumia 735, Lumia 620 and Lumia 625.

In the price range of ₹15000 to ₹25000, the best Android phones would include the 1st Gen Moto X, Nexus 5, the OnePlus One and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo. Whereas, the best Windows Phone in this price range would be the Nokia Lumia 1320, Lumia 1020 or the Lumia 925.

In the price range of ₹25000 to ₹35000, the best Android phones would be the Moto X(2nd Gen), Samsung Galaxy Alpha, LG G3 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Whereas, Windows Phone in this range would be the Nokia Lumia 1520 or the HTC One M8 for WindowsPhone.
In the price range of ₹35000 and up, the best Android Phones would be the HTC One M8, the Nexus 6 or Samsung Galaxy Note 4. There aren’t any of the Windows Phone in this price range, but Apple Fanboys can go for the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

Step 3: Choose the right size

Nowadays, the size of a smartphone does matter. Smartphones come in all types of sizes. So choosing the right one is very essential. If you are someone looking for a compact phone which can fit easily in the pocket and don’t have to read things on the phone, a 4.3″ to 4.7″ phone will do. And if you are a moderate user and need a phone in which it is compact as well as large enough, a screen size between 4.7″ to 5.2″ is efficient. But business people or people who read and want to game on their smartphone wherever they go, a screen size of 5.2″ to 6″ is perfect.

Step 4: Look for the perfect specifications

If you are a hard core gamer, then choosing a phone with the right specifications is really important. A phone with a Qualcomm 80x series chip offers a higher and smoother rate of multi-tasking. It is also useful for gamers as it provides high graphic gaming. A phone with a Qualcomm 60x chipset offers a mid-level experience but it is will provide a smooth experience for moderate level users.

The amount of RAM in a smartphone also matters a lot in the user experience. The more the RAM, the smoother the phone will work. Many of the flagship offer 2GB to 3GB RAM. For a moderate user, a RAM between 1GB to 1.5GB is enough.

As the size of the screen matters, so does the pixel density and the clarity. Presently the sharpest screens on phones are 1920×1080(1080p) screens. But normally, 720p screens are enough for an average user.

Buying a phone with an efficient battery is very useful. For example-a 1800mAh to 2800mAh is useful for people who have a moderate use and if they are not outdoors for a long time. Whereas for people who are always moving and want a phone for constant use, a 3100mAh to 3400mAh battery in a phone is useful. The phones with the best battery life are the LG G2, Samsung Galaxy Note Series, Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the whole line-up of the Nokia Lumia series have an awesome battery life.
For all those photographers out there, choosing the best camera is very important. But, be careful, that megapixels aren’t the unit in which a camera is judged. NOTE: DO NOT OBSESS WITH MEGAPIXELS! For example: The iPhone 8MP camera takes equally good photos which a 20MP Sony Xperia camera phone takes. The best budget friendly phones with the best cameras are the Nokia Lumia 1020, Nokia Lumia 735, Moto X, Xiaomi Redmi 1S and the Samsung Galaxy S3
