Mandvi, a city in Kutch in the Indian state of Gujarat is an old city enclosed within the fort walls of the summer retreat for Maharao (king) of the Kachchh. A good half day trip from Bhuj unless you want to spend more time on the beach. You can opt to stay in Mandvi and explore Bhuj and its surroundings. The best time to visit Mandvi or the Great Rann of Kutch is October to March as it’s quite pleasant out there during this period.
Windfarm beach, as Mandvi Bech is known as, has windmills that are lined up at one end of the beach that generate electricity for the area around. Once upon a time, it was the largest wind farm in Asia.
Normally any place which has a beach tends to be very humid but Mandvi Beach seemed to be an exception! Throughout our time though it was sunny but it was equally pleasant and breezy.
The beach at Mandvi is not very dirty, though there were lots of stray dogs roaming around. This place has lots of camels and horses which are available for small rides at the beach if you wish to, though it is always preferred to take a long walk along the beach and experience the beautiful sunset.
Bauter Jinalay(72 Temples)
Located in Khoday on the Mandvi – Bhuj Road at about 15kms from Mandvi, Bauter Jinalay is a Jain Temple complex consisting of 72 Jain Derasars as the name suggests.
More details on places I visited during my visit to Kutch coming soon.
